Whether newly married or married for decades, you need to understand that marriage, your marriage is a gift from God designed to bring you joy, give Him glory and for the advancement of His kingdom.
This is the very reason, your marriage is under attack. The devil wants to take you, your marriage, and your family down. John 10:10 NIV says "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;" BUT God says, "My purpose is to give you a rich and satisfying life." In order for you to live a rich and satisfying life, you've got to know without a doubt, WHO you are and WHOSE you are.
The wisest of women (wives) builds up their homes, but a stupid one tears it down with her own hands. (Proverbs 14:1, GWT). In order to have a marriage that can overcome the storms of life, it must be built on a solid (firm) foundation. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus tells the story of two houses that experience a severe storm. One house crashes and falls apart during the storm because of the poor foundation. The other house survives the storm because of a solid foundation. The difference between the two foundations, is that the occupants in the first house did not put into practice the words they heard from Jesus. Whereas the second house heard the words of Jesus and put them into practice.
In order to hear the words of Jesus, you must spend time with Him in prayer. In order to have a solid (firm) foundation, not only do you need to hear, but you need to obey, put into practice what you've heard. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17 ESV)
As wives, we were created to be our husband’s helper! "The Lord God said, "it is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." (Genesis 2:18 NIV).
You were created specifically to be your husband's helper. The word helper means, one who aids another. As a woman (wife), you were created because the man (your husband) needed help from someone (you) who could aid him in his responsibilities. You may not be able to help your husband be successful on his job. You may not be able to make your husband become a stronger spiritual leader, but God can. So, what better way to be a helper to your husband than to pray to the one who made him and knows all about him and then to hear the words (the reply) of the Father, through prayer and put them into practice as his helper. "The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; ..." (Psalm 138:8 NKJV)
Your prayers for your husband have more power than anyone else's. We often don't realize how much power and authority we have. If we did, our posture would look differently. It would move from a boxer’s stance to one of kneeling.
“Take… the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Pray always. Pray in the Spirit. Pray about everything in every way you know how.” (Ephesians 6:17b-18 VOICE)
It is time to rise and become a Wife Who Wars in the Spirit and not in the physical. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12). We are called to go into battle (spiritually) FOR our husbands, NOT against them.
